Lou Piniella made his regular season debut in the YES booth when he joined Michael Kay and David Cone in calling the Yankees’ season opener. Even though the disappointing 7-6 loss put a damper on the occasion, Piniella’s first Opening Day as a broadcaster evoked fond memories of his debut as manager of the Bronx Bombers, which took place almost 26 years to the date on April 8, 1986. I’m a big fan of Lou Piniella and David Cone, but those two and Michael Kay are the worst baseball announcer trio ever. This is one category where the Mets are clearly better than the Yankees. YES network’s 3 stooges know how to score baseball, they just don’t mesh in the booth.
